Rethinking Knowledge. Reimagining Education.
The Post-Dewey Institute is an independent, international research institute committed to advancing equitable, decentralized, and democratic approaches to knowledge and education in the 21st century. Inspired by—and moving beyond—the educational philosophy of John Dewey, our work engages with the pressing need to reform outdated institutional frameworks and to create new epistemic infrastructures rooted in participation, justice, and pluralism.
Our Mission
We seek to transform how knowledge is produced, shared, and taught across cultures, disciplines, and institutions. Our mission is to:
- Challenge the traditional hierarchies of education and expertise.
- Promote epistemic democracy—the right of all people to participate in knowledge-making.
- Foster innovative and inclusive pedagogies that respond to the global challenges of our time.
- Support educators, researchers, and communities seeking to reimagine what education can and should be.
What We Do
At the Post-Dewey Institute, we conduct and support:
- Global research collaborations on topics including educational equity, postcolonial knowledge, and digital learning.
- Policy analysis and strategic advising to institutions and governments seeking meaningful education reform.
- Fellowships and residencies for scholars, educators, and activists engaged in transformative education.
- Public programs and workshops that connect communities with critical tools for democratic learning.
Our Approach
We believe that education is not merely a system, but a living practice shaped by power, culture, and imagination. Rooted in critical pedagogy, decolonial theory, and networked learning, our approach transcends borders—intellectually and institutionally.
- We support knowledge commons rather than gatekeeping.
- We value dialogue over doctrine.
- We cultivate civic imagination and systemic critique as foundations of global education.
Our Global Network
The Post-Dewey Institute operates across multiple geographies, with partner institutions, academic fellows, and community partners spanning Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Through this decentralized model, we aim to de-center the Global North’s dominance in educational theory and practice, and build truly pluralistic alternatives.
Join us in building an education future that is just, collaborative, and post-hierarchical.
